Sculpture Rooted in Movement

Scott McDonald is a British sculptor creating contemporary abstract works that explore movement, tension, and continuous form through looping interconnected structures. Working across bronze, steel, aluminium, iron, and resin, his practice centres on the relationship between material weight and flowing spatial rhythm — creating sculptures that feel simultaneously monumental, suspended, and in motion.

Rooted in a refined process of fabrication and material exploration, each work is developed through an ongoing dialogue between balance, repetition, light, and surrounding space. Collaborating closely with specialist British fabricators and foundries, McDonald’s sculptures are distinguished by their sculptural presence, considered proportions, and richly developed surfaces that shift subtly through changing light and perspective.

Alongside standalone works for collectors and galleries, McDonald creates bespoke sculptures for architectural, interior, and public environments. Each commission is carefully tailored to its setting, allowing the work to interact naturally with scale, atmosphere, and spatial flow. Whether placed within contemporary interiors, sculpture parks, or large-scale public settings, the sculptures are designed to create moments of stillness, contemplation, and visual tension.

Based in the North of England, McDonald has exhibited widely throughout the UK, including sculpture parks and solo gallery exhibitions. A graduate of Gray’s School of Art, where he later completed a Masters in Art & Design Research, his practice continues to investigate how line, mass, and repetition can be transformed into immersive contemporary sculptural form.
